Nathan Thielman, MD, MPH, an infectious diseases physician, is Professor of Medicine and Global health at Duke University. Broadly, Dr. Thielman's research focuses on clinical and social issues that affect persons living with or at risk for HIV infection in low-resource settings. Together, with colleagues at the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research, his group is applying novel stated-preference research methods to optimize HIV testing uptake among high-risk groups in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. He is Director of the Global Health Pathway for Residents and Fellows, Associate Director for the Master of Science in Global Heath Program, Co-Director for Duke's NIH-funded Interdisciplinary Research Training Program in AIDS, and Duke Principal Investigator for the Vanderbilt-Emory-Cornell-Duke Fogarty Global Health Consortium. He is a past member of the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and served on the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention and Treatment. Dr. Thielman has facilitated training for numerous Global Health trainees and received the Duke Global Health Institute Excellence in Mentoring Award in 2012.
