Dear Friends,
I am excited to direct the thoughtful and committed group of researchers and program implementers that we have at the Center for Health Policy & Inequalities Research, fondly known as CHPIR.
I’ve been a member of the Center since 2003. I give deep thanks to Kathryn (kaet) Whetten, our director from 2004-2025, for creating a collaborative, multi-disciplinary working environment that we can build off of today.
I invite you to partner with us – either joining in our work or inviting us to join and enhance yours.
What you may not know is that for the last decade or more, we’ve increasingly focused on global mental health and multi-systemic resilience. You also may not know that the science of resilience is branching out past the individual level into realms of collective, structural, and community resilience. Resilience isn’t just an individual’s ability to adapt; it is also the process of creating structures and harnessing resources, including access to health care and education, to sustain societal well-being.
Here at the Center we are working with our community partners to apply and test the latest theoretical models of resilience. I invite you to explore the models depicting our current thinking. please connect with us anytime at CHPIR@duke.edu as we promote well-being.
